At a Parish Meeting held on Thursday 26th January 2012, it was decided Ashcott would hold a Village Celebration to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The National Celebration weekend is from Sat 2nd June – Tuesday 5th June 2012.
A Committee of about 12 Villagers was formed and are now busy making celebration arrangements.
It has been decided that Village Celebrations will take place on Saturday 2nd June & Sunday 3rd June.
A Village Funday, based at the Playing Field, is planned for Saturday.
Starting with a Family Treasure Hunt around the Village and continuing with a Jubilee Olympics Competition during the afternoon. The day will conclude with a Family Bingo Evening in the Village Hall.
On Sunday we plan a Village Lunch to be held in the High Street outside the Village Hall. This will be followed in the early evening by a Junior Disco which then develop into an all age Disco as the evening progresses.
The Committee hope to arrange to supply a Commemorative Gift to each child under 16 in the Village. We also hope to produce a Souvenir Programme for every household.
We would like all events to be free of charge at the point of entry, and so need to raise money to fund the celebrations.Ashcott Parish Council has started the funding process by making a grant of £500. We will try to raise more money by a house to house collection.
