Ashcott Football Club
After several successful seasons as their own clubs respectively the trio of, Abbey Moor FC, Ashcott Youth FC and Tor Sports FC have now merged to create one club for the local community Ashcott FC in the aim to provide access to football for all age groups. The club is looking to build a sustainable future and establish and build a strong foundation within the local area.
The club hosted its first inaugural Ashcott Cup in May 2013 in which 4 teams & 80 plus players played; Ashcott 1sts, Reserves, under 18’s and Veterans with the 1st team coming out on top. The teams would like to thank the ‘Ring ‘O’ Bells’ of Ashcott for providing post Tournament food and their continued support in providing a venue for various meetings functions.
Off the field Ashcott FC recently formed links with Kokrobite charity in Ghana via kit donations who have 3 football teams registered with Ghana Football Association; U12’s, U15’s and U17’s.
On the field Ashcott FC have entered U8’s, U9’s and U10’s teams into the Tony Pryce Mini League and U12’s into the Tony Pryce Youth league, both leagues will see the children play against teams from the Taunton Deane, West Somerset and Sedgemoor area. They have entered U18’s into the Somerset league and Adult 1st and Reserves teams into the Yeovil and District league, both leagues will see the teams play right across the Somerset area. The Veterans team will also play games within the Mendip, Sedgemoor and Taunton Deane area. All home games will be played at the Coronation Playing Fields in Ashcott.
Throughout the summer volunteers have been working hard at the ground improving access via Kings Lane, refurbishing the pavilion, showers, changing rooms, kitchen and pitches. Ashcott FC has also received a generous donation of 2 sets of portable goals for the coming season and Ashcott playing field committee has plans in place for a new pavilion/changing rooms and multi-use games area (MUGA) . The club have found support from ‘The Retreat’ in Ashcott which will act as a post-match base providing much needed food and refreshment for teams.
With Chairman Colin Macpherson at the helm, a strong committee, 1st team management team of Bryan Ashton and Simon Cruwys, Reserve team management team of Jon Hebbes and Karl Stephens the club has already received great support within the local area and the squads have seen 40 plus training throughout pre-season. Vice Chairman and Ashcott FC Veteran Bryan Cox stated ‘It’s great to see Ashcott FC rise again, in bygone days the club has seen great success on the field however with the new links it has formed, support from the local community and provision for such a variety of ages I am excited and looking forward to what will no doubt be a sustainable and successful period for the club.’
Ashcott FC’s season kicks off with the 1st team entertaining Aller Park Rangers on Thursday 29th August 1830 KO at home, followed by the Reserves hosting Stoke on Saturday 31st August 1400 KO at home, all support welcome.
